Five initiatives across Ohio

Every program removes a barrier to reading.

From home bookshelves to elementary school reading buddies and private adult literacy classes, our work is direct, local, and entirely free.

Home libraries

A shelf of their own books

We mail new, carefully selected children's books directly to Ohio homes every month so young children grow up surrounded by stories they can call their own.

Families register once, and books arrive addressed to the child until their eighth birthday, building a home library from the very beginning.

In the schools

One hour a week with a buddy

Elementary school students meet their volunteer reading buddy once a week during the school day to practice reading aloud in a quiet corner.

Working with teachers

Twenty minutes a day

Children build trust and confidence reading one-on-one with the same volunteer throughout the entire school year.

Sessions are coordinated directly with school reading specialists to reinforce classroom goals without extra testing.

A calm, unhurried time where children discover the quiet satisfaction of finishing a book on their own terms.

Early readiness

Ready for kindergarten sessions

Story and play

What happens

Parents and preschoolers gather for shared reading, letter games, and guided play that build foundational language skills naturally.

Schedule

When and where

Free weekly sessions are held in local libraries, community centers, and neighborhood rooms across multiple Ohio counties.

Adult education

It is never too late. Our classes are private, patient, and free.

We offer one-on-one reading assistance and patient GED preparation designed for working adults who want to read with confidence.
